Message from the President December.2019

To Continue to be the “Engineering Firm at The Core”

The Tokyo Motor Show, which is held once every two years, was held from October 24 to November 4, 2019. As we transition from the era of owning cars to the era of using and sharing cars, about 1.3 million visitors packed the event this time because not only automobile manufacturers but also parts manufacturers and companies in different industries mobilized their newest technologies and services, beyond the boundaries of their conventional domains, in order to provide the audience with a physical experience of a future mobility society.

The automobile industry is now facing a once-in-100-years revolution as the waves of CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared&Service, Electric) rush in. When I was a student, I went to the Tokyo Motor Show purely because I wanted to see the cars that I longed for owning. Decades later, however, it has changed from an event where only car lovers gather, into a Tokyo Motor Show with a charm that draws even those who are not interested in cars, to physically experience the future life with mobility. I think this is the reason for the success of this event.

People’s values are undergoing a great change with the times as just described, and the needs of people of all generations are now becoming more diversified and complicated. I believe that for companies to meet these needs, they need to work on manufacturing and the creation of experiences based on a “market-in” approach once again.

In the winter edition of our company newsletter, SYORYU, which is the last issue of FY2019 (to be published in January 2020), we feature our vision of the engineering group we should be in order for MEITEC and its employees to keep creating new value for the world in five and 10 years.

Since we defined ourselves as an “Engineering Firm at The Core” three years ago, after asking ourselves the question of who we are, we have been working on our initiatives to continue to be an entity that can take a core role for our manufacturing customers and be an entity playing a core role in a labor market that is able to realize a professional way of working for engineers. As we will focus on some of our proactive actions and activities toward that purpose in the feature, I would love for all employees to read it.

We tend to underestimate the changes of the times and their impact when we create the future, but evolution toward the future will become reality faster than we can imagine because of technological innovation. I want you to regard this as an opportunity and continue to take on new challenges in order for us to continue to be the “Engineering Firm at The Core” even five and 10 years into the future.
