Making “Time” for Creation

Recently, in our society, talks about utilization of the “Time” have increased.
For example, as the countermeasures to decreasing labor force due to the aging society and low birth rate of Japan, promoting utilization of women and elderly people to ensure labor forces and labor hours are attracting attention. Also, as the Labor Standards Act amendment to expand the application of the discretionary labor system has been submitted to the parliament on April 2015, discussions are to be made on the concept of proper working hours.

I myself am trying to be always conscious about the use of the “Time.” “Time” is equally limited to everyone and cannot redo. When I started to work as an engineer in Meitec 33 years ago, I saw the “Time” from two different viewpoints. One is the “Time” for work of design and development. And the other is my personal “Time.”

When I was young, design work was majority of my work. But, as the time goes by, I’ve try to keep in mind to increase the “Time” for creation. In an issue of how we can reduce the cost, I have experienced of ingenuity in design and development by creating a way of reducing work hours in manufacturing by reducing the assembly steps and number of parts.
Even if we would spend more time on design and development, if we could make such creative proposal, I believe that we can heighten our output as whole. I wish to our engineers that you too would make creative proposals in various field of view and wide sight. You can surely provide more added values to our clients if you can use the “Time” for creation rather than just the “Time” for work.

On the other hand, we need to utilize our personal “Time” to enjoy our life by spending it for our family, hobby, and investment in self-development, etc.
In my case, because of being anxious about work always, I couldn’t make “Time” for my family and hobby.
I am sure that many of you engineers cannot help think about your work even in an off day.
I wish that you would try to take advantage of extraordinary “Time.” If you can spend quality time in your OFF time, eventually, you can spend quality time in your ON time. And you can expect that it will enhance your productivity and output in your work.

Participating in the manager activity and corporate events is one example. In case of Meitec, since you are not working at the same work place, you can connect and communicate with fellow engineer through the occupation of engineer.
We have events which you can participate with your family, and hobby related event such as making things. There are also self-enlightenment study group to enhance your language skills and knowledge.
I wish you would utilize your personal “Time” to enjoy your life with plan.

Let us create the “Affluent Engineer Life” together with the Company by enjoying both the work “Time” and the personal “Time” in balance.
