Message from the President October.2018

Catch & Action

Among the things that I was conscious of when I was an engineer, I still value one thing today. That is, thinking about things from the viewpoint of the other person. I call it the spirit of altruism.

First, I try to act with strong awareness of how the other person feels in terms of my mindset and attitude and how they understand me. Further, I have been trying to improve my quality of communication, look for ways to allow the other person to make a clear and quick yes/no judgment, and make suggestions to the other person to create a state that gives the other person a sense of security and makes them hopeful.

In addition, I have defined the meaning of “the other person” as not only manufacturers as our immediate customers, but also many people connected to the customers. By acting with consideration for the roles and missions of the other person, I can have many other persons see my value as an engineer, leading them to make comments such as, “This is convenient” and “This will enrich our lives.” Consequently, the reputation and performance of customers improve, and I will be able to provide a highly pleasant state for customers. I think that MEITEC engineers can be evaluated as “engineers exceeding customers’ expectations” by taking on challenges to realize and achieve such a state.

In the 2018 autumn issue of the employee magazine, SYORYU, we focus on Catch & Action as the theme of the special feature. Catch & Action is a collection of facts concerning whether our engineers understood customers’ expectations and desires, which led to the understanding of specific actions to create a state that is pleasant for customers.

Because so much information exists in today’s world, the information that is delivered in an Information Push may be too much for us to sort out easily. However, the collection of information is really important for us and the other person; we need to take the initiative to obtain the information that is available in the form of an Information Pull.

In this special feature, we introduce cases of Catch & Action, which are highly informative in terms of thinking about things from the viewpoint of the other person. They include cases in which we not only acted in accordance with customers’ words or instructions, but also suggested improvements or prepared the next step to be taken by understanding the essential issues or needs that existed in the background.
I strongly recommend that MEITEC employees read the special feature to gain the awareness or springboard to take the first step toward future growth.
